The Double Cleanse

Skincare Begins with the cleanse. This is the first step in prepping the skin and removing all of the layers of your day or night. It is a process of renewal and it is my favorite step in the ritual of self care.

Typical cleansing is a single quick cleanse to get to the next step as fast as possible so you can move on to the next step. This is missing the whole point of the cleanse. This is the step that shouldn't be hurried. instead, it should be savored. Take your time to pick the appropriate cleanser. is your skin dry or dehydrated? is it oily and in need of some astringent foamy bubbles? do you feel like your pores are clogged and in need of a softening enzyme or acid to break up some of that gunk? This is you chance to begin the steps toward fixing those issues... depending on the season or the state of your skin this is your chance to alter those issues.

Start with the perfect temperature... not too hot and not too cold. Choose your cleanser based on how your skin is feeling... Cleanse your skin first to remove impurities and surface debris... then comes the all important second cleanse... this is when you cleanse deeper. push into the muscles of the face and manipulate in an upward circular motion and start to stimulate the lymphatic system... this is Cleansing on a much deeper level... push in at the temples and the jaw muscles... feel the tension and breathe that out. Release the tension out of the face and rinse.

You have just cleansed on a deeper level and now can start the process of layering all of your other products thinnest to thickest. serums, lotions, creams, eye cream.

A short history of Ritual bathing

In every culture bathing is part of our daily life and an absolute necessity. Some cultures see this "necessity" as an opportunity to savor being alive. To feel the sensations and love the gift we are given (this physical vessel). In Japanese cultures there are many words to represent the nature by which you are bathing. From a quick bath (raven's bath), a deep soaking tub that is a staple of japanese culture, communal baths, to a forest bath (for convening with nature and for deep spiritual and physical cleansing). All over ancient Europe the Hammam or Roman baths were a place for release, spiritual cleansing, communing with others, and for general wellness. Fully submerging our bodies in water is healing on so many levels. The Spa industry in the US is becoming a mainstay because of the understanding that we must find ways to release the stress that we hold in our bodies. This is a way of reconnecting with our higher selves and it gives us the opportunity to thrive. There are Programs in France where people will be sent to a Thalassotherapy center (warmed ocean water therapy center) for everything from smoking and drug cessation to many other physical ailments. It is believed that the minerals that are absorbed by being in and around ocean air can heal us and bring us back to a place of balance. All of these influences have a staple status in almost all cultures across the globe. We all must remember the art of relaxation and reconvening with ourselves and the healing power of our earth.

One Year in...

This journey began a year ago. But when I really think about it it began when I was born. My gift has always been the shared experience. How to bring the magic into a shared moment. two people united by time and circumstance. That is how I became attracted to this industry in the first place. if you look a certain way you attract certain people. If you help someone else feel their best on the outside, they take that moment wth you, with them. They shine brighter. Their experience after they have left you is better,,, brighter... there is a spring in their step and a lift in their spirit. They may raise an eyebrow at the man sitting at the bar, or may say that thing that's been sitting inside them that needs to come out... Feeling yourself can change your life in an instant. it can propel you down a path that you may not have so willingly forged had you not been really... really feeling yourself.

I am a year into this Veritas project. I am in the uncomfortable teenage phase of business. Veritas is getting her braces off soon and she is already thinking about her outfit on the first day of high school. She has stayed up nights, been half broken down, eaten coffee and doughnuts just to get moving all the while she has dreamed big. She is big apple corner office dreaming all the while trying to stay afloat with mounting pressure. This little business is my siren song and she will soar. She was an empty box with only the lessons learned as the blueprints that she would use to elmers glue these popsicle sticks together one by one until this place started to take on a life of it's own. She began to catch a glimpse of herself in the mirror and puff up a little bigger.

I am Veritas. Veritas is me... and Veritas is every woman. She is the girl who stays true to herself. Her name means truth and this space is the unveiling of herself to herself. She is the female resolve. She is the sisterhood that unites us all. She is the deep mystery and the overt humor that is being female. She loves and nurters. She listens. She cacoons you, holds you, keeps you safe and warm until you are ready to emerge. She is that moment of shock when you see yourself and say damn... She is beautiful, and impressive, and soft, and strong... and Gorgeous.

the color of beauty

The color of beauty is Happiness. It shines from within and makes us all more attractive. There's a reason all of the greatest spiritual teachers across time and space stress love, compassion, forgiveness... All of these things create the best life possible... and in my opinion make us the most attractive. As a practice this week I want you to try sitting quietly each morning in bed before the house turns itself inside out with the frenzy of getting your family or self out the door. Just sit. Turn the corners of your mouth up in a slight smile and release the entire day ahead. Know that you will handle what may arise with grace. Take quiet stolen moments for yourself throughout the day. Share a smile. Watch a bird fly. Take extra deep breaths and try to stay in the moment. Today is a gift, a present. Shine brightly.
